Canary Islands consolidate position as leading global destination for professional cycling training

We’ve signed an agreement with Team Jumbo-Visma, the world’s top cycling team in 2020, to continue consolidating the Canary Islands in the professional sports tourism sector. The Netherlands-based team will publicise its training in the Islands, a significant promotional action considering the cyclists come to the Islands four or five times a year.

Aiming to boost the positioning of the Canary Islands in professional cycling, we’ve signed a cooperation agreement with Team Jumbo-Visma, which will promote the team’s training in the Islands on its communication channels. The altitude, long climbs and good weather are the main reasons behind Team Jumbo-Visma’s choice of the Canary Islands as the venue to prepare for major events ahead of the upcoming season.

The Turismo de Islas Canarias diversification strategy includes consolidating the region as a leading destination for professional sports tourism.

First-rate facilities and excellent geographical and weather conditions

The year-round good weather allows uninterrupted training, essential for athletes who need to keep up their daily sports routine ahead of top-level competitions. The other key elements are the first-rate facilities to cater for elite athletes and a range of accommodation offering special diets, medical specialists and amenities specifically aimed at this tourist profile. The Canary Islands has become the venue of choice for many professional teams training for high-level competitions in a range of sports.
