For another year, Promotur Turismo de Canarias attended the World Routes event, the most important gathering of airlines in which representatives from leading airline companies meet up with airports from around the world.

Over a four-day period from 21st to 24th September, the Promotur delegation held a busy work agenda in Adelaide, Australia, which included many contacts with leading airlines to highlight the strength of the archipelago and the advantages of including Canary airports in their respective flight programmes. Specifically, Promotur had meetings with over 30 operators, among them airlines, data companies and airports. Among the airline companies, the standout meetings they held were with Siberian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Alitalia, British Airways, Eurowings, Wizzair, Vueling, EasyJet, Jet2, Air lingus, Norwegian, American Airlines and LATAM.

Meetings were also penned in with European airports with whom close contact is maintained due to the mutual interest that exists to improve connections. This is the case of German airports such as Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Cologne and Dusseldorf, given the complicated situation that has existed over the last year with the German market. They also met up with the airports of Venice, Krakow and Bologna.

Objetive: to increase and improve connectivity

The priority with these contacts was to continue to offer convincing arguments to airlines that would contribute to including the islands in their immediate and future route plans.

The closure of Thomas Cook occurred while the forum was being held, so the delegation at Promotur made the most of their time to collate high quality information regarding possible immediate and future strategies in the wake of the huge gap left by the company, as well as convincing different airlines, with relevant data, of the growth potential of the routes that the former tour operator and airline has just left behind.

These efforts were part of Promotur’s communication strategy, in which an increase and improvement to airline connections of the islands with its different markets is one of its main objectives, especially in regular flights.

Recognition by Airlines for the work done by Promotur

This 25th annual World Routes Development Forum also included a prize-giving ceremony for those organisations who have stood out for their marketing work and the improvements they have made to connectivity. In this way, and for the third successive year, Promotur Turismo de Canarias was one of the nominees to receive the top award for its management of capturing airline routes. Finally, and having obtained the award in this category in 2017 and 2018, the airlines awarded Promotur the accolade of “Highly Commended” or second place, a recognition and renown which will undoubtedly play a positive part in efforts to plan new and improved connectivity operations with the Canary Islands.
