The communication platform Training Non Stop is now up and running. The new Promotur Turismo de Canarias initiative attempts to boost this kind of sports tourism by attracting European clubs, associations, teams and individual athletes looking for places to train and prepare for outdoor competitions, with the advantages and necessary equipment to reach peak performance in each sporting discipline.

In six languages as well as in Spanish, the new promotional platform will display the advantages of the archipelago, and its excellent summer and winter conditions as a training destination for a segment which is of great interest due to its spending power. This comes in addition to the huge tourism promotion from hosting high-level athletes in the Canary Islands, together with the various events of this type held each year. Evidence of this are the numerous comments and photos that these athletes post on social networks showing their satisfaction with the Canary Islands’ climate and landscapes.

The trainingnonstop.com website is the hub of this new line of targeted communication which, in addition to the specialised accommodation for athletes and facilities for these types of sports, includes a range of professional services aimed at covering any kind of club or athlete requirement in the Canary Islands. The sporting events held on the islands are also an important part of the new platform, and will also be promoted internationally so that they become another tourist attraction.

As well as the website, other promotional initiatives are expected throughout the year aimed at turning the archipelago into a favourite for clubs, associations and athletes for their stages, events and sports holidays. Online campaigns, personalised emails and attendance at trade fairs and events are some of the actions that will be effected to support this change.

Sporting activities such as diving, wind and water sports, golf, those taking place in natural parks and others that have been promoted up until now by Turismo de Canarias, join up to 23 disciplines on the new platform which will be promoted specifically to an audience who, although not necessarily professional athletes, are prepared to travel to find the best place to train.

Diversification of clients

The attention given to sporting tourism forms part of the diversification strategy of Turismo de Canarias clients, as one of the categories established in the Marketing Plan of the Canary Islands’ tourism brand.

It should be taken into account that 7.4% of tourists who visit the archipelago practice some kind of sport. The various island destinations have managed to consolidate a successful range of activities such as diving, wind and water sports, golf and other sports connected to nature such as mountain biking and paragliding.
