The Canary Islands as a tourism destination is being shown in various adverts on the popular giant screen outside the State Opera House in Vienna, traditionally installed to broadcast the famous festival in the Austrian capital live each day, until 30 June. This promotional action by Promotur Turismo de Canarias comes before this market’s heaviest booking period for the winter season.

Since 1 May four daily screenings of Hello!, one of the most highly awarded promotional videos of those created by Turismo de Canarias, have been shown in Vienna to thousands of opera fans, at the perfect time for the audience to receive inspirational messages about winter holiday destinations.

With a 16,000 euro budget, the action has been 85% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (EDRF).

Increase in Austrian tourism

In 2016 more than 175,000 Austrian tourists visited the Canary Islands, which represents a spectacular increase of 52% compared to the volume of Austrian visitors arriving in 2015. Austrian tourists rate the destination very highly, on average with a score of 9.25, and spend a lot more than the average tourist in terms of the average daily spend (151 euros compared to 135), as well as are very interested in nature (approximately 38% mention the Canary Islands landscapes as one of their reasons for visiting compared to 22% of other visitors) and enjoy active tourism (9.7% of Austrian tourists practice this compared to a little over 5% of others).
