The Canary Islands, 3 February 2017 – The Canary Islands have some of the most seductive spots for a romantic Valentine’s break. The most beautiful sunsets on the planet can be watched from small coves or endless beaches, from a vantage point over a landscape dotted with volcanic cones with the Atlantic on the horizon, and even from off the beaten track where there are no paved roads. These are some of the most sought-after experiences for lovers who wish to surprise their partner with a magical moment.

To make your stay more comfortable and special, the Canarian archipelago also has an extensive variety of unique guest houses and modern hotels with the best range of relaxing treatments for couples in wellness centres, with the added appeal of natural resources and thalassotherapy for therapeutic applications.

For their romanticism and natural benefits, Cupid’s arrows point to seven or so spots on the Canary Islands this Valentine’s.

Los Jameos del Agua, Lanzarote

Designed by the artist from Lanzarote César Manrique, this is an almost magical place to relax in beside the palm tree garden and its artificial lake. Inside a cave is another natural lake, home to a species of albino crab not found anywhere else in the world. Built into the cave itself, the auditorium draws on the magnificent acoustics of the volcanic cavern and usually hosts all kinds of concerts and events to make a very special date one to remember. There are also other romantic spots on Lanzarote such as Teguise or the island of La Graciosa, where there are no paved roads and is perfect for cycling around.

Cotillo's coves, Fuerteventura

This place is ideal for relaxing in and spending a few days with your partner away from all the hustle and bustle. Even in February, the mild climate means you can enjoy the white sand and clearness of its turquoise waters, which are usually very calm due to the horseshoe-shaped natural reef. If the wind does get up, there are two options: either enjoy the day spent sheltered with your partner in one of the corralitos (small circular walls of volcanic rock created by residents); or visit the beautiful village of Betancuria, less than an hour’s drive from El Cotillo. At night, if you fancy something a little more upbeat with your partner, those who are also lovers of music can enjoy a cocktail in one of the best beach clubs in Corralejo, in the north of Fuerteventura, with views of Lobos Island.

Shinetherapy treatments on Gran Canaria

The Canary Islands are an authentic outdoor spa thanks to the mild climate all year round and natural resources of the sea, wind, sand and sun. Gran Canaria has numerous spas ideal for the more romantic, where seaweed and mud are used for thalassotherapy sessions; the minerals from volcanic soil for geotherapy; aloe vera (which thrives in the mild climate) is used as the basis for aloetherapy treatments; and even the juice from grapes grown on volcanic sands are used for vinotherapy, very efficient at cleaning and purifying the skin and stimulating circulation.

Teide National Park, Tenerife

One of the most stunning sunsets is from the Teide National Park, which acts as a huge stage for the Sun to line up against the summit of the volcano and disappear behind Spain’s highest peak. At this point an infinite amount of stars come into view, which reach the height of their visibility as night falls, thanks to the archipelago’s clear skies and the absence of clouds for the best part of the year. In fact, it is one of the best places in the world to observe the universe, with the area having been declared a Starlight Reserve. It is the perfect plan for romantics who have spent the day visiting the Güímar pyramids and the village of Vilaflor.

Valle Gran Rey, La Gomera

The Atlantic is the ideal horizon for watching the sun set on the east of La Gomera. The ravine that leads out to the black sand beaches of the Valle Gran Rey is breathtakingly beautiful as the changing orangey hues of the sunset disappear into the ocean. This is the perfect spot for couples wanting to take in nature caressed by the Atlantic breeze while they feel time stand still.

Los Andenes Viewpoint, La Palma

It is a struggle, in the rugged interior of the island of La Palma, to choose the best vantage point from which to take in its magnificence. One of the most attractive is Los Andenes viewpoint, 2,000 metres up, from which one can observe the course of the Angustias ravine almost in its entirety within La Caldera de Taburiente National Park and the Pinar de Garafía Nature Reserve. Renting a convertible is an enticing plan for the two of you to reach the highest point of the island and enjoy the silence of the volcanoes staring into infinity.

La Maceta Natural Pools, El Hierro

La Maceta natural swimming pool, in El Golfo valley to the north of El Hierro, brings together sun, lava and sea to redefine the word “pleasure”. Their so-called seawater “charcos” or puddles of various sizes are sheltered from the waves, although these occasionally break to create spectacular surf when the ocean is rough. This all makes the bathing area an attractive location for a romantic weekend with your partner.
