With the goal of continuing to consolidate the Canary Islands tourism brand as the perfect place to practise any sport or outdoor activity all year round, Promotur Turismo de Canarias co-sponsored a new edition of the Transgrancanaria HG, a race with considerable global reach that crosses the island of Gran Canaria from east to west. The event this year, in which more than 3,800 runners of 70 nationalities participated, was held from 22 to 26 February and is included in the “Ultra Trail World Tour”, no doubt helping to position the Canary Islands as one of the best scenarios for hosting the most important challenges.
This co-sponsorship is one of a series of promotional actions being developed in two of the categories established in the Canary Islands Marketing Plan: “Active tourism” and “Sport tourism”, specifically on “The Extremesphere Reserve” and the recently launched “Training Non Stop” communication platforms.
The impact of this event in the media and its international visibility have been growing year after year, and it has become a magnificent showcase and tool for promoting foreign tourism in the Canary Islands.
The Transgrancanaria is a pioneering event in the trail mode in the archipelago, taking its place as the benchmark ultratrail on the Spanish scene and the crown jewel of the European winter, as it opens the season for races in this category for all of Europe and is acquiring an increasingly higher profile on the world calendar.
In this edition, the event was divided into the Trans 360º (265k), the Transgrancanaria (125k, the crown jewel, with a time of limit 30 hours), the Advanced (82k), the Marathon (42k), the Starter (30k), and the Promo Family (17k).
