The language and humor of the Canary Islands become stickers used by thousands of people
10/07/2026
Through this initiative, we have turned some of the Canary Islands' most popular expressions and most iconic everyday situations into a collection of stickers that have already become part of the daily conversations of thousands of people. The project began as a creative initiative on the official Islas Canarias Instagram profile and has since expanded to WhatsApp, where it has built a community of more than 100,000 followers.
The sticker collection features instantly recognizable expressions such as "Tremenda calufa" ("What intense heat!"), "Vamos pa'l charco" ("Let's head to the beach"), "Hoy toca tenderete" ("Today's all about a get-together"), "Se me fue el baifo" ("I completely lost my train of thought"), "Hecho en Canarias" ("Made in the Canary Islands"), and "Me doy un bañito y vuelvo" ("I'm going for a quick swim and I'll be back"), alongside characters inspired by the archipelago's wildlife, landscapes, and local traditions.
The stickers combine familiar local expressions with characters inspired by the fauna, nature, and customs of the Canary Islands.
The initiative was born from a simple idea: bringing the essence of the Canary Islands into the digital language people use every day. Popular expressions, the distinctive way people speak across the Islands, local characters, landscapes, gastronomy, and recognizable everyday moments have all been transformed into stickers that anyone can download and use in their conversations.
To celebrate Canary Islands Day, the "Stickers Islas Canarias" WhatsApp channel was launched as a space to distribute new collections, engage with the community, and continue building a collaborative project that keeps growing. The channel already brings together 103,501 followers, who actively contribute ideas for new designs, demonstrating that the identity of a destination can also be shared through small, everyday interactions. From the very beginning, the community response was immediate, with thousands of users sharing the stickers, requesting new collections, and asking how to install them on their phones.
The "Stickers Islas Canarias" WhatsApp channel already has 103,501 followers actively participating in the creation of new designs.
To make the process easier, we created step-by-step tutorials on social media explaining how to download the stickers, while continuing to expand the catalogue with new designs inspired by the culture and collective imagination of the Canary Islands.
In just one month, the WhatsApp channel has reached 910,035 accounts, 94% of which belonged to people who had not previously followed the channel. In addition, every post generates hundreds—and often thousands—of reactions, while community polls to decide future sticker collections attract tens of thousands of votes. Users themselves suggest new expressions, vote on upcoming designs, and help shape a project that continues to evolve by listening to its community.
