Canary Islands Golf Roadshow

Promotur Turismo de Canarias has organised a travelling professional golf gathering, in marketing referred to as a roadshow, around several cities like Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne and Hamburg. Those cities were chosen on the basis of the high number of golf fans they have, making it an interesting market segment for the Canary Islands. From 17th to 20th September, there will be activities available in different golf courses around those cities, to promote the Canary Islands at the different championships with German guests professionally involved in golf tourism such as the TTOO specialised in golf. In doing so, the Canarian companies taking part, will have the chance to build up business relationships with those involved in the German golf sector.

The format used for this event, more dynamic than a traditional fair, sets up the ideal context to make business contacts between the TTOO and travel agents attending, offering the possibility to present the islands as a destination for this tourism sector. The Canarian delegation, led by Promotur, includes golf course associations from Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Tenerife, alongside hotel business people and services linked to the world of golf.

Around 140,000 golf tourists in 2017

Travellers who chose to visit the islands to come to play golf last year, spent an average of 194.34 euros a day, which added up to 235 million euros. This is just some data that shows the importance of one tourist looking for somewhere to do their favourite sport, in an appealing setting with good weather all year round.

In 2017, a total of 138,170 tourists over 16, visited the islands looking to play golf. Different nationalities visiting on percentages: 36.2% from the United Kingdom, followed by Germany with 21.3%, Sweden with 6.3% and to a lesser extent Belgium, the Mainland, Norway, Holland, Ireland, France and others.

This segment requires specific promotion, therefore, Turismo de Canarias has set a fair attendance schedule, or in this case organising events abroad, in order to position the islands in the market.

*This event was 85% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
