In 2018, Promotur Turismo de Canarias attended 41 national and international tourist sector gatherings to promote the Canary Islands tourism brand in some of the main European cities. Holland, Austria, Germany, Finland, Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Portugal, United Kingdom and Slovenia, as well as the United States, are some of the countries where teams from Turismo de Canarias have gone aiming to promote the Islands.

Besides general fairs, mainly focusing on “sun and beach” destinations, like -Fitur in Madrid, ITB in Berlin and WTM in London-, Turismo de Canarias has also attended specific fairs dedicated to segments with a high potential on the Islands, according to their market and client diversification strategy: cycle tourism, sailing, diving, golf, hiking, rural tourism and incentive congresses. For the latter, the IBTM World de Barcelona particularly stands out, one of the most renowned globally.

Furthermore, the Canary Islands is taking a clear chance on golf, with Slovenia attending the golf world fair IGTM and the organisation, for the first time this year, of a roadshow with championships in four important German cities to promote golf on the islands. On the other hand, and under the umbrella of Turespaña, they have participated in several promotional actions focused on target markets like the ones in the Portuguese cities of Oporto and Aveiro.

In all of them, the different agents, tour operators, airlines and tourist businesspeople, had the chance to find out about the different options on offer on the islands. In addition, Turismo de Canarias has an intense work schedule for these events, where not only the Islands are promoted among final consumers and agents within the sector, but they also encourage connectivity and build up bonds with leading world tour operators.

Best business stand

The new Canary Islands stand was introduced at the World Travel Market in London, an 800-square metre state-of-the-art venue with an avant-garde design, visual and eye-catching, showing the values of the brand in a comfortable and operational environment for agents within the sector and Canarian businesspeople attending. The stand was given the award for Best Business Stand by the organisers of the fair.

This activity in tourist fairs is complemented with intense digital promotion aiming to keep the leadership of the Islands in traditional markets and further diversify and open new ones.
