Airlines can now access the new call for promotional incentives earmarked for the recuperation of airline collections with the rest of Spain, European Union countries and other countries who constitute inbound tourist markets to the archipelago.

These incentives are aimed at encouraging the necessary reestablishment of connectivity to the islands through a sector that has suffered a huge setback due to the pandemic, and which the Canary Islands depend on in order to ensure their tourism activity. The call is therefore an incentive for airline companies to start to recuperate the flight programme that they were running with the islands prior to the health crisis.

Nearly €1 million

The financial package for this call initially stands at €979,699, reflecting the temporary nature of the last two months of 2020. The maximum economic threshold that each airline can obtain is €150,000 and will be applied to national and international routes to be operated in November and December this year.

Airlines can opt for this promotional incentive as long as the minimum flight threshold they operate in this execution period is greater than 35%, in the case of international flights, and 65%, in the case of national flights, than those they operated in the corresponding period of 2019. In this way, once this threshold has been reached, a maximum amount of €4 shall be paid for every additional certified seat in the case of international commercial routes and €2 for national commercial routes.

Turismo de Islas Canarias hopes to maintain this incentive in 2021, the amount for which will be conditioned by budgetary constraints and a temporary period approved by the European Union.

Airlines can apply for the incentive at the Turismo de Islas Canarias website, where the promotion rules are also published.
